The U.S. Supreme Court kicks off its October Term on Monday, October 3, 2011, with oral arguments in a case involving California’s cuts to Medicaid. The issue is not about the propriety of the cuts but about whether the plaintiffs may sue to challenge the cuts. The outcome is expected to affect other challenges to the methods by which states implement federal programs. The justices will also meet in conference for the first time since June.
